Hikes were really for 5miles, which is a long walk. We really enjoy doing them because it gives us a chance to gossip to our friends or new people. If your friends not there there’s bound to be someone else. The hikes are cool because you can spot really cool things. Once we hiked to a tower.
Have a good time

The best part of Woodcraft is going on camp. It is good to go away for
a week and enjoy a range of activities such as arts and crafts, sports and
quizzes. We also go on trips such as Eagle Heights where we visited for a day
and enjoyed viewing the animals and watching a bird show. At the end
we had the privilege of stroking and playing with Husky’s, who were absolutely
gorgeous.
I would recommend Woodcraft to people
of all ages and from all backgrounds as it caters for many peoples interests.

The talent show is an annual thing and everyone is very supportive.
I was very nervous, so nervous I was almost crying, but a few encouraging glances
from my fellow members and I was all right.

Wow, this place is great
On you come, you really should
Ooh its some good fun
Doing things are cool
Come on, come on
Are you nine and over?
Right come on come on
For things are really very fun
Today come on.
So now I’m gonna put Woodcraft into sight
We like it here and we’re gonna stay
So come and join our Woodcraft Folk
It’s from 6 – 8
We do our best at our tests
And then Julie does the rest
We always do what’s right
And we never fight

We come to Woodcraft to get away
From all our troubles from the day
It gives us a chance to see our friends
Until the happy night ends
We travel far and wide, to spread
All the joy and happiness
We like doing craft activities
Which leader Julie kindly oversees
With Dallace and Mark helping with every stride
Our green shirts we wear with pride
With our badges sewn on tight
We say the creed and end the night.

Last time on camp we had a disco with disco lights and ice star blocks with
candles in them outside. Conor went to bed after 15 mins.
We went to Eagle Heights and saw loads of fabulous eagles that come from different
places in the world.

We went to Eagle Heights at camp and saw various birds of prey. We went outside and had our lunch and then it was time for the bird show. This man put a hat on my head with a piece of chick on it then this big bird a Cara Cara jumped on my head, that was the best part of camp for me.

It is through Woodcraft that I have forged many friendships and strengthened
the bonds over the last five years that I have attended. I find Woodcraft
a “comfortable” place – where I can be myself and through
this have many unforgettable experiences.
Woodcraft Folk has given me so much confidence, happiness and a place to escape
to at the end of a tough week at school.
I really look forward to going to Woodcraft each week and have so many friends – of all ages.

I’ve been coming to Woodcraft since I was six and never ever considered leaving…..it is just fabulous. My Friday evenings are great : spending time with my friends – some of whom I have known since I joined and others who I am still getting to know.
Reason 1. Friends….
We play games hang out and chat..
…and also do crafts and stuff – making Mother’s and Father’s
day gifts.
Reason 2. Span the world with friendship….
We have also spent time fundraising and collecting money for other organisations
and charitable groups
…We collected and donated money and purchased stuff for the Tsunami.
…We collected school and stationary equipment for a new school setting
up in Africa we also wrote to the children as well.
Reason 3. We raise money for our own group through raffles at our talent show – also fabulous.
Reason 4. I have many more reasons, too many to write down…..
So the last and best reason is Camp – 1 week of fun and hanging out with my mates!

Our leaders Mark and Dallace crazily agreed to have their heads shaved to raise money for Camp 2006.
We were all given sponsor forms and told to get going! We all took the
forms away and gathered promises of money from friends, family and other relations
Mark and Dallace needed to raise £500.00 each or their hair would get
the chop.
I took my form to school and had a hard time trying to get my friends to understand
why I wanted their money! But in the end I came out successful as did many
of my friends as in the end we raised £800.00.
Although this was very close to our target Mark and Dallace had their heads
shaved anyway! They both said they were feeling colder on their heads! We
actually made the Evening Post and the Reading Chronicle as well as raising
plenty of money for camp 2006 which made it a success!

At the valentine disco it was super. The DJ was superb and I loved the way Julie and Dallace put a parachute up to make a sort of grotto. The music the DJ played was some of my all time fave songs and he played it so we could hear it at the back of the hall and it wasn’t too loud at the front of the hall and still loud enough for us to chat to our mates without shouting. It was also great that whenever we wanted to have some food you could just help yourselves and have as many drinks as we wanted. Even the grown-ups joined in with the dancing. It was so much fun. There were also brilliant lights that kept changing. Also sometimes the DJ made a spotlight or it looked like it.

It was 7pm I entered the large hall, nicely decorated in coloured hearts, flashing lights and a large pink canopy covering half the hall. The DJ was placed on the stage headphones on his head mixing records on his decks.

I really enjoyed the valentine disco because all my friends were there. There was a huge parachute up and a really cool DJ called DJ Darko. I danced most of the time but I did play IT too. The DJ put on my favourite song especially for me. I really enjoyed it.

For Valentines Day Reading Woodcraft Folk held a valentine dance. Starting
at 7pm the members who range from 9-17yrs were provided with a buffet and a
DJ.
The hall was crowned by a pink parachute,
which provided a suitably romantic atmosphere. This combined with the
music the woodcraft members had hand picked meant soon everyone was dancing
and having fun. Occasionally the dance floor cleared of the older girls
who didn’t appreciate the choices of the younger members. The dance hall
glittered with hand made decorations members had made the previous week.
Julie the Head leader encouraged everyone
to get up and dance herself joining in, everyone was united by the final song
of the evening: the theme tune of Reading Woodcraft Folk: The Cha Cha Slide.

For our Christmas party we had a circus skills workshop. The hall was full of an assortment of various props, of which we could take our pick. We spent an hour having full reign over the equipment – learning how to juggle, walk on stilts and having races along the beams. It was great fun even if we ended up in a heap laughing!
By Katherine F Back to top
I really enjoyed the circus workshop I liked learning how to do all the tricks, some things were hard to do, but others were easier. Mike the circus man who showed us what to do let us play around while he walked around giving advice and helping us. All in all I really enjoyed it and I hope we could do it again.

For Woodcraft’s annual Christmas celebration a circus man was hired
to entertain the 30 young members. He brought his large box of tricks
and taught us how to use them. It included: plate spinning, devil sticks,
jugging balls and hoops. After the teaching session, we were left to
enjoy the equipment.
When the evening was drawing to a close
everyone was invited to show off his or her newfound skills. The evening
was a huge success everyone enjoyed it immensely.

The circus was great because we could learn circus tricks that we couldn’t
do before. The circus man called Mick was very weird and funny. He
was really great to watch and he was well trained. We all tried to be
like him and tried to get round everything and that was very hard.
